First visit – first place, Vansteelant wins the XI. Duathlon
Joerie stays at CLS for a three week training camp and participated in the Lanzarote International Duathlon for the first
time. He just completed two weeks of hard training at Club La Santa and although he felt a bit tired on this Saturday
morning, he finished the race in considerable 57:03min. Almost one minute ahead of the pursuing Belgians Aernouts
and Dereere, who, together with later 4th Victor Manuel del Corral Morales, formed the leading group of the field of
119 athletes.

Joeri knew about the strength of his competitors and focused on the bike ride, where he definitely used his
advantages. The racing pace was made by Dereere and himself, just on the last meters, Jurgen speeded up to be
first in the transition zone.

Once on the bike, a group of five took the lead but nobody wanted to work hard, so he pushed the pace and stayed close behind Morales, who was up front. Joerie dropped him on the steep slope up to Soo and escaped on the way to Munique. “I wanted to take him with me, because you can speed more when you ride together, but he couldn't keep up and I had to go on my own”. It worked out very well and he arrived at CLS after 32:49min and after a quick change of 19 seconds, he kept his comfortable lead of almost a minute and crossed the finishing line after 57:03. “It was my first race at Club La Santa and I really enjoyed it very much. The weather is just great and the atmosphere on the track was also very pleasant.”
“I will definitely come back here, the weather conditions are perfect and I love the bike tours around the island. I don't mind the hills, that´s just perfect for my training!”

The last times, he spent his winter training in the south of the Peninsula, but it is often too chilly in the mornings, so he followed the invitation of his fellow Belgian Triathlete Luc Van Lierde and came to Lanzarote.
